Volume Profile and dPOC: Mapping Where the Market Accepted Price

Horizontal volume reorganizes activity by price rather than by time. That makes it useful for identifying where the market spent and transacted the most business inside a chosen window.

Profile as a price map

Instead of asking which candle had the most activity, a volume profile asks which prices accumulated the most activity over a selected period. The highest-volume price can be represented as a point of control, while surrounding high-volume areas can be stored as acceptance zones.

The window is part of the signal

Weekly, daily, session and custom profiles answer different questions. A production system must store the profile window explicitly. Changing the window after seeing the outcome introduces look-ahead bias.

Developing POC

A developing point of control changes as new transactions arrive. Useful features include its current price, slope or migration direction, distance to market price, persistence and whether price is accepting or rejecting the area.

Filtering structural zones

One promising use is to combine profile information with pre-existing buyer/seller zones. A zone that overlaps a meaningful profile concentration can be flagged as having additional contextual evidence, while the contribution of that evidence must be validated statistically.

Data caveat for spot FX

True centralized traded volume is not available for the decentralized spot-FX market in the same way it is for an exchange-traded futures contract. If HF_OS uses broker tick volume, futures volume or another proxy, the data source must be recorded and tested separately.
